By tilling the ground, planting seeds, watering them, and finally harvesting, players can obtain crops that can be sold at the Shipping Docks for a reliable stream of income. There is a wide variety of crops in Farmtown, and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. Most seed types can be purchased from Pitchfork Jeb's Farmer Supply for dollars, but a select few can be purchased from the Coin Store for Gold Coins. Others still may be purchased from special sources like the Traveling Merchant. All crops that can be grown on tilled ground come in the form of seeds that can be planted by using the corresponding seed bag item as a tool.

Certain crops, such as Red Apples, do not grow from seeds, but fall from a fruit tree.

The seasons affect the growth speed of each crop differently. Some crops may grow very quickly in summer, but perhaps not at all in winter. Other crops may grow best in winter but are very lackluster in other seasons. Therefore, it is important for farmers to understand which crops are best for each season so they can maintain efficiency throughout the year. To this end, the Farmer's Almanac is a great resource.
